Nordic Combined: Viessmann Climate Solutions presents the “FIS Combined For Change Award” for the first time

The FIS and Viessmann Climate Solutions are working together to make winter sports more sustainable. This is why at least one sustainability measure will be presented at each Nordic Combined competition venue. At the end of the 2024/2025 season, the „FIS Combined For Change Award“ will be presented to the most effective of these.

Allendorf (Germany)/Oberhofen am Thunersee (Switzerland), 04.12.2024 – Winter sports are facing major challenges: Climate change, melting glaciers and increasing ecological pressures are not only threatening the future of the sport, but also the natural environment in which it takes place. The Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) and Viessmann Climate Solutions have acknowledged this problem and they are committed to making winter sports more sustainable. In the 2024/25 season, the efforts to make the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup as sustainable as possible will come into play more than ever in order to reconcile ecological responsibility and sporting tradition. In order to honor the commitment to sustainable snow sports even more, Viessmann Climate Solutions and the FIS are presenting the “FIS Combined For Change Award” for the first time. An award that recognizes the most effective initiative for sustainable winter sports during the 2024/2025 Nordic Championships. Viessmann Climate Solutions is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions, since January 2024.

Together for greater responsibility

The Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) of the eight World Cup venues for the 2024/2025 season are part of the newly initiated “FIS #CombinedForChange Sustainability Tour”. The aim is to get to know at least one of the sustainability measures in place at each venue and gain valuable insights and share them. In this way, the committees can learn from each other and use the knowledge gained in a targeted manner to make their own events even more environmentally friendly and sustainable in the future. The activities cover areas ranging from energy production and transportation solutions to waste management and community work at the respective venue. Expertise and results are shared among the organizers, creating a shared pool of knowledge for more sustainable event organization.

“The challenges we face today, particularly with regard to the environment, affect all of us. That's why we can be part of the solutions,” says Susanna Sieff, FIS Sustainability Director. “Event organizers have been very proactive and have launched impactful projects. Imagine the positive difference we can make if we spread them throughout snow sports.”

#CombinedForChange

Not only the LOCs benefit from the knowledge of how events can help to make a difference, but also the entire winter sports community. Over the course of the FIS World Cup season, FIS and the climate solutions provider Viessmann Climate Solutions, title sponsor of the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup, will jointly present “#CombinedForChange”: a video series telling the individual and personal stories behind each of the eight initiatives, embodied and narrated by the main characters of the Nordic Combined, the athletes.

At the end of the season, when all initiatives have been rolled out and presented by the LOKs, the “FIS Combined For Change Award” presented by Viessmann Climate Solutions will honor the most impactful among them. The winner will be determined by a public vote on social media, an evaluation by a jury of FIS and Viessmann Climate Solutions experts and a vote by the LOCs themselves. The winning committee will receive a 10,000 euro voucher for an intelligent climate and energy solution from Viessmann Climate Solutions.

“By supporting the ‘Combined For Change Sustainability Tour’, we want to pursue our goal of strengthening sustainability in Nordic Combined together with our partner FIS,” says Georg van der Vorst, Head of Sponsoring, Viessmann Climate Solutions. “It is our major goal to achieve a positive impact for the climate and to communicate about the projects that contribute to this - in winter sports and beyond. With the 'FIS Combined for Change Award' and the prize of an intelligent climate and energy solution from Viessmann, we want to underline this commitment and support the organizers even more in their efforts.”

The first competition of the 2024/25 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup took place from November 28 to December 1 in Ruka, Finland. The snow farming project initiated on site was presented. The complete Nordic Combined season schedule is available here.
