Viessmann and winter sports: a passionate combination
Viessmann has been an active sponsor of winter sports for more than 20 years. Viessmann supports three disciplines, two international federations and more than 20 athletes as a reliable partner. Promoting young talent plays a special role for us here too.
We believe that top products and high-performance sports go hand in hand. That’s why we made the decision to get involved in winter sports in 1993. Since then, our company has continued to develop and has climbed the rankings from the regional league to world class – as they would say in the sports world. Our passion for winter sports has continued to grow and has therefore become a significant part of our company. Viessmann’s sponsoring activities have not only allowed it access to fans but also to their passion.
We support competitive athletes and nurture young talent
The passion for winter sports drives fans to attend an event and root for their heroes. It is this enthusiasm that inspires athletes to give their best. And it spurs Viessmann on to help up-and-coming athletes. Together, we ensure that this enthusiasm and passion for winter sports is passed down to the next generation.
On talented young athletes, competitive sports and much more
We care a great deal about the coming generations, and this also applies to our commitment to winter sports. Young athletes have to travel a long and difficult road to become professional athletes. This is why we provide support for the nationwide promotion of talented young athletes. Our support of the Viessmann Junior Team as part of our cooperation with the German Ski Association allows us to sponsor young athletes in biathlon, skijumping, cross country skiing and nordic combined. For example, our contributions are used to finance training camps to provide ideal training conditions for up-and-coming athletes.
We also take on responsibility for regional winter sports and the next generation of skiers. For example, we are a sponsor of the Willingen ski club. The geographical proximity to our company’s headquarters in Allendorf (Eder) and our regional ties make it very important to us to promote young talent here, too.
Another pillar of our commitment to young athletes is our support for the sports boarding school in Willingen, where these students’ athletic talent is promoted and they can optimally combine formal in-school education and sports.
In addition to the promotion of the next generation and competitive athletes, our holistic approach also includes supporting athletes after their active career. For example, athletes who are part of the Viessmann team are given the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship or a dual course of study in the company following their professional career. Some athletes also maintain close ties with Viessmann beyond their active careers and represent the business as brand ambassadors. Viessmann has forged decades of cooperation with outstanding athletes such as Sven Fischer, Tobias Angerer and Georg Hackl.
Our activities are wide ranging
Our commitment to winter sports all began with luge. In addition to partnering with the International Luge Federation (FIL), we also individually sponsored and supported well-known athletes such as Georg “Schorsch” Hackl, Susi Erdmann, Sylke Otto, and the two-man luge team Stefan Krauße and Jan Behrendt. Their great athletic achievements and likeable public image made them ideal brand ambassadors – Georg Hackl is still one of our most important brand ambassadors, even if he ended his active carrier a long time ago. As winter enthusiasts, we have greatly expanded our sponsoring endeavors. With Ski jumping and Nordic combined, popular sports were added to the portfolio and Biathlon legends such as Uschi Disl and Sven Fischer not only wore the Viessmann cap, but are still brand ambassadors and embody the values of the company to this day.
Viessmann becomes climate partner
We have been involved in winter sports for almost 30 years and see ourselves not just as a sponsor, but rather as a partner. This is no longer just about traditional company logo visibility, but about joint projects dedicated to increasing sustainability and climate protection. With Viessmann’s expertise, energy efficiency analyses have been conducted at winter sports locations such as Ruhpolding. These enable the generation of targeted savings potential by means of sustainable climate solutions. Concrete implementation of one project is already visible in Oberstdorf, where energy-efficient, carbon-reducing Viessmann solutions are being used to modernize sports facilities for the Nordic World Ski Championships.
Yet the positive changes don’t end there. In fact, they are rounded off by many cooperations with athletes who act as climate ambassadors. They not only promote sustainability in sports, but also reduce their personal carbon footprint by using Viessmann climate solutions at home.
Viessmann is proud to be a climate partner of the IBU and the DSV and to help the FIS achieve its own climate targets.
Excitement at the shooting range and on the cross-country skiing trail
Since 1995 and until today we have been supporting many athletes in biathlon, whether world champions, Olympic champions or talented youngsters. The sport has gained enormously in popularity in recent years. Today, biathlon is the most popular winter sport on television in Germany. And for good reason: Tension is high up until the last rifle shot, and it is usually not before the final sprint that the winner is decided. Various world champions, Olympic champions and overall World Cup winners, including Sven Fischer, Laura Dahlmeier and Denise Herrmann-Wick have been part of the Viessmann team for decades. And when the spectators cheer on athletes such as Hanna Kebinger, Vanessa Voigt or Philipp Nawrath, Viessmann is always part of the game.
A sponsor driven by passion
Since 2002 we have been a presenting sponsor of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and thus the Ski Jumping World Cup. One of the annual highlights is the World Cup ski jumping in Willingen. The Mühlenkopfschanze is the largest ski jump in the world and is located very close to our headquarters in Northern Hesse. World championship titles, Olympic medals and top placings at the traditional Four Hills Tournament or in the overall World Cup – the list of successes in ski jumping is long. The team includes not only top German ski jumper Katharina Schmid and experienced and successful ski jumpers Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler, but also one of the greatest German talents, Constantin Schmid.
Masters of the nordic ski sport
The proper combination of speed for ski jumping and endurance for cross-country skiing is the secret formula that every Nordic combined skier refines throughout his career. Established athletes like Johannes Rydzek, but also shooting stars like Julian Schmid or Jenny Nowak have been part of the world elite for years and won several titles, both solo and in teams. Viessmann has been supporting the Nordic combined, the masters of Nordic skiing, since the mid-2000s.
Fully committed at home too!
In addition to traditional sponsoring, Viessmann is launching numerous projects with the athletes to improve their carbon footprint and ensure that their heating is very energy efficient and keeps carbon emissions low.
