Career
Julian has been on cross-country skis since early childhood. At the age of seven, he is invited to take part in ski jumping trial training and has remained true to the combination ever since. Through the DSV Schülercup, Deutschlandpokal and Alpencup, Julian continuously advances to higher competition classes. In 2018, he wins his first international medal at the Junior World Cup in Kandersteg – silver with the team. In 2017, he competes in the Continental Cup for the first time. At the 2019 Junior World Cup in Lahti, he wins gold twice – in sprint and with the team. In the same season he makes his World Cup debut. The 2021/22 season will be the most successful to date in Julian's still young career. In addition to his first podium finish in the World Cup, he takes part in the Olympic Games in Beijing and wins the silver medal in the team competition there. The highlight of his career to date follows in 2023: three World Championship silver medals in Planica. He also won four World Cups and finished third in the overall World Cup.
First successes: vice junior world champion
Julian wins the silver medal in the team competition at the 2018 Junior World Championships in Kandersteg.
World Cup debut and two-time junior world champion
He makes his World Cup debut in Otepää and finishes 26th. Julian wins the gold medal in both the individual and team competitions at the 2019 Junior World Championships in Lahti. He also wins the silver medal in the second individual competition.
A spot in the World Cup
Julian wins the bronze medal in the team competition at the German Championships in Klingenthal. As a current junior world champion, Julian is nominated for the World Cup season opening in Ruka. While he doesn’t quite make it into the points ranking, he does end up among the top 20 several times. With continued exceptional performance in Lillehammer, he secures his position on the World Cup team and finishes the season in 32nd place in the overall ranking.
Best career World Cup finish
Julian is also mostly competing in the World Cup this season. At the home World Cup of Klingenthal, he records his best placing so far in his still young career with 13th place. At the end of the season Julian ends up in 30th place in the overall World Cup.
First podium in the World Cup and Olympic silver in the team
This season will be Julian's most successful in the World Cup so far. In addition to several top-10 finishes, he is able to secure a podium place for the first time in his career at the World Cup in Otepää. To crown an excellent season, Julian is allowed to participate in the Olympic Games in Beijing, where he wins the silver medal with the team. In the overall World Cup, he ends up in a strong twelfth place.
First World Cup victory and three World Championship silver medals
Julian makes his breakthrough this season. He takes his first World Cup win in Ruka, followed by three more victories. In total, he finished on the podium eleven times this season, which earned him third place in the overall World Cup rankings. Julian is also in top form at the highlight of the season, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica, winning silver medals in the individual, team and mixed team events.
It's not always uphill
After an outstanding 2022/23 season, Julian can't quite build on these successes this winter. Nevertheless, he is a constant presence in the World Cup and finishes in the top 10 nine times; with fourth place in Lillehammer, he only just missed out on the podium.
