Career
Simon is born in Rhineland-Palatinate – not a renowned winter sports region. Nonetheless, he’s fascinated by the biathlon from a young age. At 12, he gets started in the sport by joining the Biathlon-Team Saarland club, and two years later he transfers to Sportgymnasium Oberhof (a sports high school) to better combine school and training. Starting in 2018, Simon trains with the World Cup elite at the training center in Oberhof. In addition to his sports training, Simon successfully completes vocational training with the state police in 2020. At the 2021 Junior World Championships in Obertilliach, Austria, he just misses the podium in the sprint with a fourth-place finish. In 2022 he takes part in the European Championships on the Arber and competes in the IBU Cup several times. In the years that followed, he continued to fight his way up to the top of the world rankings, achieving his first podium finishes and celebrating his first victory in the IBU Cup in 2023.
IBU Junior Cup debut
Simon celebrates his IBU Junior Cup debut in the 2019/20 season. He competes in his first international races in the Martell Valley in Italy and at the Pokljuka Plateau in Slovenia.
Barely-missed medal ranking
Because no IBU Junior Cup races were held during the 2020/21 season as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 Junior World Championships in Obertilliach mark Simon’s first international competition this season. Simon can be satisfied with solid finishes in the sprint and the relay, where he comes in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Soon thereafter, he also celebrates his IBU Cup debut in Obertilliach.
Participation in the European Championships
In this season Simon first starts in smaller events before he gets his chance in the IBU Cup. After he shows good performances there, he also participates in the European Championships in Arber. In total, he finishes among the top 15 in the IBU Cup twice in the 2021/22 season.
First podium finish in the IBU Cup
In the 2022/23 season, Simon starts regularly in the IBU Cup and makes it into the top 10 six times in total. Simon celebrates a premiere at the season finale in Canmore, Canada: He finishes third in the mass start and ends the season with his first podium in the IBU Cup.
First victory in the IBU Cup
In 2023/24, Simon made impressive progress in the IBU Cup and was able to build on his successes from the previous year. In December, he celebrated his first IBU Cup victory in the sprint in Sjusjoen with a flawless race and further podium finishes in relay and individual races followed over the course of the season. Simon finished the season in a very good eighth place in the overall IBU Cup rankings.
