Career
Uschi starts her career as a biathlete at the age of 16. In 1992, she wins the silver medal with the relay team – at the premiere of the women’s competitions – at the Winter Olympics in Albertville. Over the years, she becomes world and Olympic champion several times and wins a total of 30 individual World Cup victories. In 2006, she ends her active biathlon career after a race at Holmenkollen in Oslo. From 2007 to 2009, Uschi works as a TV expert for the German broadcaster ARD. Today, she continues to be a brand ambassador for Viessmann.
Junior world champion and first World Cup victory
Uschi serves as a permanent member of the World Cup team from the beginning of the season. In 1991, she becomes junior world champion in the team competition in Finland. In the same season, she wins her first World Cup race, the sprint in Les Saisies. She secures the bronze medal with the relay team at the 1991 World Championships in Lahti.
Olympic silver and world champion
She wins the silver medal with the German women’s relay team at the 1992 Olympic premiere of the women’s competition in Albertville. Uschi also secures the world champion title together with the women’s relay team in Novosibirsk.
Relay successes
This season, Uschi wins the relay races in the World Cup in both Pokljuka and Antholz.
Olympic silver and bronze
In 1994, Uschi wins the silver medal with the relay team at the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer. She secures bronze in the individual race.
World champion and three-time vice world champion
At the 1995 World Championships in Antholz, Italy, Uschi becomes world champion with the relay team and wins three silver medals – in the sprint, individual and team competitions.
Two-time world champion
In 1996, Uschi secures the gold medal in the team and relay team competitions at the World Championships on home turf in Ruhpolding, Germany.
Relay world champion
As in the previous years, Uschi wins the gold medal with the relay team at the 1997 World Championships in Osrblie.
The first Olympic victory
Uschi becomes Olympic champion with the relay team at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano. She adds to her collection of medals with the silver medal in sprint and the bronze medal in the individual race.
World-class
Uschi becomes world champion with the relay team in Kontiolahti in 1999.
Two-time vice world champion
In 2000, the German women’s relay team with Uschi falls short of the world champion title, but does manage to win silver. Uschi also wins the silver medal in pursuit at the World Championships in Oslo.
Two-time vice world champion once again
As in the previous year, Uschi wins the silver medal with the relay team at the World Championships in Pokljuka. She also becomes vice world champion in sprint.
Olympic champion
The successful German women’s relay team of the previous year is also victorious at the Olympics. Uschi becomes Olympic champion in the relay competition in Salt Lake City in 2002. She also wins the silver medal in sprint.
Bronze at the World Championships
In 2003, Uschi wins the bronze medal with the relay team at the World Championships in Khanty- Mansiysk.
World Cup victories
Uschi makes it to the top of the podium with the relay team at the 2004 World Cup on home turf in Ruhpolding. Uschi wins both the sprint and pursuit races at the second to last World Cup of the season in Fort Kent.
Two-time world champion and vice world champion
Uschi becomes world champion in sprint and pursuit as well as vice world champion with the German women’s relay team at the 2005 World Championships in Hochfilzen. She wins her fourth medal, bronze, in the mixed relay competition.
Final World Cup victory and bronze at the Olympics just before retirement
Uschi claims the final victory of her career in sprint at the World Cup in Oberhof. She also wins another medal at her last Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006, taking third in the mass start event. Uschi concludes her active biathlon career after the mass start at Holmenkollen in Oslo. She has been a brand ambassador for Viessmann ever since.
